Janet Smith-McGurk’s 100K Sunday
Janet Smith-McGurk set out on June 25th 2017 for a simple long run; 100K, in her words, “just because”. Completing what might be the club’s longest-ever Sunday morning “fun run”, Janet ran her 100K in five legs, taking a bit over 12 hours. Her pace, not counting short stops for water and food, ranged from 9:58 to 10:38 per mile. Smith-McGurk, a frequent long-distance competitor on both roads and trails, started at the regular Sunday morning spot at the Springfield Library, and her route took her around Springfield, Broomall and all the way out to Edgmont along West Chester Pike. Along the way she was accompanied by a stalwart team of DelcoRRC runners, including Francesca LoPresti, Madeline Delany, Christine DiSantis, Doug Milana, Maria Newport, Martina Shields, Noreen Beresford, Steve Whitmore, Theresa Brady, Cheryl Cantlin, Meg McCoach, Gene Archambault, Liliya Yatsunyk, Mike Bolin, Linda Ficco, Bill McGurk, Owen Smith, John Ashton, and Anastasia Milana
