Delco RRC Receives National Award

Delaware County Road Runners Club honored with President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Community Leadership Award

Springfield, PA—The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition has selected the Delaware County Road Runners Club to receive a 2019 President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Community Leadership Award.  The award is given annually to individuals or organizations who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activity, fitness, or nutrition-related programs.

The Delaware County Road Runners Club (Delco RRC) is a running club based in Springfield, Delaware County in Pennsylvania.  With over 300 members, the club’s mission is to promote regular running as a life-long activity that enhances physical, mental and emotional well-being for people of all ages. Each week the club sponsors 12 “fun runs” throughout Delaware County where members meet up and run a set course together. It is estimated that over 12,000 people have participated in the club’s activities since its inception in 1972.

“We are proud to recognize the Delco RRC for the work they have done to consistently promote opportunities for individuals to lead healthy lifestyles through their weekly fun runs and sponsorship of youth developmental track meets,” says Kristina Harder, acting Executive Director of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. “Because of Delco RRC’s meaningful efforts and impactful contributions, we are one step closer to improving the physical fitness, health, and nutrition of all Americans. Their work reaches not only their community, but also serves as a shining example to inspire and motivate others across the United States to embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle.”

Current and founding Delco RRC Board member Byron Mundy is thrilled that the Delco RRC is receiving this award:  “Hundreds of active members have made many contributions to the club’s success over the years. We hope to continue our activities for many years into the future.”

This year, the President’s Council presented the Community Leadership Award to 31 recipients across the country. These individuals and organizations have all made an impact by doing work in an area of the Council’s mission, successfully serving the people in their communities through sports, physical activity, fitness, and nutrition-related programs.
